We started reading this book today, and were pleasantly surprised. It has a nice easy flow to it, and gets you thinking the whole time you are reading. Examples are clear and generate thinking on your creative side. It is an excellent tool to train/teach about essay writing.

WHY TRUE LOVES WAITS... BY JOSH MCDOWELL

We have been reading this book for several weeks now.

It is an excellent guide to discussing many aspects of human sexuality. Some of the topics it covers are: Sexually Transmitted diseases (STD's), Marriage, Relational reasons to wait, Emotional reasons to wait, and Physical reasons to wait. It addresses the "whys" not the don'ts! Several teens and college students are interviewed, and give their takes or perspectives on the subject. It clearly points the reader to the "truth" about God's wonderful design for sexual activity. I highly am recommending reading it with your "teens."

Reading another book!

  • Music: melting snow

I'm reading The Seven Pillars of Health
The Natural Way to Better Health for Life
by, Don Colbert, MD
It is excellent! Some great reminders and
it also expounds on information we already
know, which he calls the Seven Pillars of
Health, they include:

Water
Sleep/Rest
Living Foods
Exercise
Detoxification
Nutritional Supplements
Coping with Stress

He is a Christian MD and brings Christ
into the picture, which I appreciate!

Hi All:

We are currently working through Mystery of History I. It is a great way to study Ancient History and addresses multi age levels. There are many extra activity ideas for elemenatry, middle and high school students! We read this together.

Dear son is reading out loud The Children's version of Homer. Dear daughter is reading out loud Cleopatra Daughter of the Nile and I am reading to my children,  Lillian Trasher Wonder in Egypt, a missionary story. So far we are enjoying all of these and would recommend them yo others.

Grammar

  • Mood: Reflective
  • Music: I'll Praise You In This Storm
  • Bible Verse: He made the heavens and the earth.
  • Weather: Bight and Sunny

I was so happy to find Our Mother Tongue: A Guide to English Grammar. This is a wonderful resource to either teach from or review basic grammar concepts. The examples and explanations are clear and easily understood. I only wish there was a workbook to go with it for extra practice. I've been typing out my own work sheets. Yet, this prepares me to teach better. This guide is appropriate and easy to use with multi grade levels.

Country Presentations

  • Mood: Thankful
  • Music: Charlotte's Web Soundtrack
  • Bible Verse: You are precious in my eyes Isaiah 43:4
  • Weather: Cloudy/COLD

This week our homeschool had a country presentations event. It was held at my dear friend Laura's home. She and her two boys set out "set" tables. Each student who researched a country took turns giving an oral speech. Desserts and snacks were prepared and served from each country presented. Let's see... we had: Baklava from Greece, Russian Apple Cake, fried yams from Nigeria, coconut juice and fried banana snacks from Indonesia, a favorite snack from Italy-carmel popcorn treats, and rice and tea from China. Amazingly, no one got a stamach ache!  The children did a fabulous job researhing, speaking, and great art work was shown on their tri-fold boards. Excellent work!

Laura has started a nice website. You will find it by clicking here:

Learned a New Game

  • Mood: Happy
  • Music: Born Free
  • Bible Verse: Cast all your cares upon Him. I Peter
  • Weather: Sunny / Cold

Today we learned how to play the game "Pay Day." It is a fun game. Both my children really enjoyed learning it. While playing you get paid, pay bills, buy and sell business' and more. There are also fun ways to spend money and make money during the game. It is a great way to learn about the simple finances of life!

Geography Idea

  • Mood: Calm/Happy
  • Music: Chopin
  • Bible Verse: Joshua 19:49
  • Weather: Cloudy/Sunny/Cold

Anybody can do this.

God gave me this neat geography idea today.

1. print out a map of the world (with country borders)
2. read stories that cover specific countries
2. color in each country that covers the geographic region of
    the book you read
3. discuss how the book describes the setting
4. track your progress and pick books for regions you need to cover
5. post map in a visible place

Examples:
Nate Saint-Ecuador
Gladys Alward-China
Marilyn Laszlo-Papa New Guinea
Julie of the Wolves-Alaska
Anne of Green Gables-PEI
Lillian Trasher-Egypt
Caddie Woodlawn-Wisconsin

Does anyone have a neat book recommendation
for a specific country?

We use this to print out workable maps!

Singing Birds

  • Mood: Peaceful
  • Music: Birds singing
  • Bible Verse: Ps. 14:14 He grants peace to your borders
  • Weather: clear blue sunny skies "cold"

The weather is "cold," but this morning the birds at our feeders, warmed my heart.

There were so many! American Gold Finches were singing away. The Black Capped Chickadees were scooting back and forth from branch to feeder quickly grabbing a sunflower seed. The Hairy Woodpeckers were jerking their head's to look out for danger, and hopped to a fro on the feeder bar. Then they would fly down to grab onto the suet feeder, to peck at our homemade bird food. Some other birds in sight were: Nut Hatches, Downy Woodpeckers, Red Cardinals, Blue Jays, and Red Poles.

A few weeks ago my daughter and I made some suet with: lard, crunchy peanut butter, oats, raisins, corn meal and mixed seeds, (mostly sunflower seeds). The woodpeckers love it!

This is a book we use as a reference tool to learn about the birds that frequent our feeders.

Currently Watching

  • Mood: Happy
  • Music: Classical
  • Bible Verse: Proverbs 10:22
  • Weather: cold / partly cloudy

Hello:

Our family is currently watching a four DVD series which are based on Janette Oke's best-selling books. The movies are directed by Michael Landon Jr. I find the movies have good morals and are a breath of fresh air. Great family entertainment! The movies are a bit old-fashioned, but the way in which they are directed, makes them full of drama. The relationships are interesting, and life's trials grab your attention. The four movies are called:

1. Loves Comes Softly (not rated)

2. Love's Enduring Promise (not rated)

3. Love's Long Journey (not rated)

4. Love's Abiding Joy (PG)
